As a figurative artist born in South Africa with Mozambican and Portuguese heritage, I create abstracted, expressive portraits of female figures. Directly through Michael Reid CLAY, Modern Times and Pépite. Where do you find inspiration? I draw a lot from ancient pottery, as well as taking inspiration from my travels.ĭo you accept commissions? Yes! What price range do you work in? Mainly $100–$550. I love creating small unique collections of individual vessels that can be a functional sculpture or stand-alone art object for the home. How would you describe your art? I hand-build all my pieces slowly, creating functional forms with curved finishes that have an organic quality. It soon became a medium I found myself endlessly fascinated by, and one that has allowed me to continually explore and expand my practice. What captured your interest in sculpture initially? I also do a weekly series called Sunday Still-life, where I paint a mini still-life arrangement on a Sunday and post it for sale on my Instagram. Where can people buy your art? As I live in the city, I find getting out into some form of nature is a great creative reset, but I also look to my urban surroundings.ĭo you take commissions? Yes, I'm currently on maternity leave, however, so I'll be resuming commissions mid-way through 2021. Where do you find inspiration? Naturally, I take inspiration from my outdoor environment. How would you describe your art? I would describe my art as full of movement, with loose, layered brush strokes balanced with small areas of detail. I have always been interested in documenting elements of nature, particularly florals, so living quite intimately with the outdoors while on the road and experiencing the change in seasons really captured my attention. ![]() When did you first start painting? I have painted ever since I can remember! Most recently, however, a six-month road trip around Australia gave me the time to pick up the brushes again and start producing work more seriously. I offer my pieces in a wide array of sizes, with the pricing for framed works starting from about $690. Where can people buy your art? My pieces are available to purchase both directly through my website and, on occasion, via galleries that exhibit my work, which is updated via my website. Although the content itself can be quite simple, it really is an example of finding happiness in the everyday. Where do you find inspiration? I paint from life, whether that is still-life arrangements, the countryside around me, or my children. What do you love most about painting? The process of creating each artwork is so incredibly personal to me, and knowing that my paintings bring joy to others is so rewarding. ![]() Recently, I have been working on loosening my brush stroke this is giving me a less- refined finish and bringing a whimsical quality to each piece. How would you describe your art? While I don't necessarily adhere to a certain style of art, my current series is a collection of still-life paintings captured at an aerial view. ![]()
